When trying out for a CAP production

  1. Please prepare a 30-45 second solo…even "Happy Birthday" will do! You can sing a'cappella or bring a karaoke CD or sheet music for our accompanist.
  2. You will be asked to read from the script.
  3. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes because you'll be learning a few dance moves.
  4. Please bring your schedule for the following 8 weeks so that the director is aware of any conflicts that may affect the rehearsal schedule.

On audition day, parents are encouraged to bring their children into the theatre and assist them with paperwork. However, parents are asked to leave the building once the audition process begins.

Make the most of your audition:

R Be prepared: memorize the lyrics & melody of your audition song.

R Smile & enjoy the audition process: the director & the rest of the audition team want you to do well.

R Show good behavior: directors are often more concerned with how you behave than with how well you sing, act or dance.

R Trust the director's choices: do your best at whatever you are asked to do, even if you're reading for a role you find challenging or awkward.

Rehearsing for a show:

Performing on stage is fun, but preparing for a quality production is a commitment that requires time and work from every member of the team.

Main Stage plays at CAP rehearse for about two months (three evenings per week plus Saturday mornings). For those cast in lead roles, there may be some Sunday afternoon or evening rehearsals.

Cast members are expected to attend rehearsals. We ask parents and their children to thoughtfully consider their ability to commit to a CAP production.
